MA Automotive Tool & Die (Pty) Ltd – Press Line & Press Shop Development, Rosslyn

Project Location

The site is located in Rosslyn, Pretoria, a key industrial hub, situated next to a natural stream and within close reach of major automotive manufacturers.

Purpose of the Project

The project involved the development of a press line and press shop facility to support advanced automotive manufacturing operations. The aim was to provide a durable, high-performance foundation and external works that can withstand heavy loads while ensuring long-term stability.

Site Challenges & Engineering Solutions

The biggest challenge was dealing with 3m deep active black clay soils and potential groundwater issues. Our engineering solutions included:

Press Foundations – Designed over 6m deep with subsoil drains to relieve groundwater pressure and protect the structure.

Press Shop Column Foundations – Installed on stable norite rock, about 3m below the surface, to bypass the problematic clay.

External Works – All heavy-duty concrete paving (for super-kinks and similar loads) was constructed on a 600mm engineered layer to ensure strength and durability.
